Tech Theatre
Course Description:
Tech Theatre/Stage Management is a class that not only teaches students all the different technical
aspects of live theatre, but also requires the students to perform these technical requirements for both
the Webb Theatre and Neher Auditorium. This is a hands on class that requires the students to work
both during school hours, after school and sometimes into the evenings. It is open to all students
regardless of grade and can be taken all four years. The goal of the class is to create competent
technicians trained on state of the art equipment so that they could step into a professional venue and
be employable. This class engages the student's imagination as well as their current knowledge of
technology and encourages them to think on their own, operate under high pressure situations while
learning all facets including theatrical design.
Rules/Expectations: Breaking rules could result in removal from the class or other sever
disciplinary action depending on infraction.

Grading:
This class is participation based so it is important that students are in class and prepared. There will
be some class assignments and a projects but a majority of the requirements for this class will be
fulfilled by the work done by for the school in the theatres.
Breakdown: 80% Participation 20% Assignments
LATE WORK POLICY: All work will be accepted up to 3 days after due (unless student is absent).
Late Work Grade Break down:
On time: 10 points
1 day late: 9 points
2 days late: 8 points after that they will receive 0 points
Tardies and Citizenship:
Each student has 3 free tardies, each subsequent tardy will lower the student's citizenship grade. A
tardy may be made up after school by working in the theatre one hour for each tardy. The other
component of the citizenship grade will be the student's ability to follow the class rules. Most of the
time a first infraction will be followed with a warning, then a location change, followed by a call
home and lastly a parent conference will be called and a possible class reassignment. Each action
that is taken will reduce the citizenship grade. Exceptions to this process are theft and endangering
other students.
Course Outline/Key Assignments:
Semester 1-
Set Design and Set Building
Lighting Design, Light programming, Light maintenance
Stage Management
Semester 2-
Sound
Props
Costume
Publicity and Producing
Appropriate Clothing and Class Dress:
This class is completely interactive on many levels. Students will be using tools, climbing
ladders and working in a variety of situation. Flip Flops and Sandals can be prohibitive at times and
even dangerous. Also skirts and jeans can also be restrictive. They will also be painting and at
times getting dirty. I am happy to have students keep work clothes for class in the shop, but my
main concern and expectation is that students are aware of what is coming up in class and dress
accordingly.
Ms Williams can always be contacted by phone or email. If you would like to schedule a student –
teacher meeting for help or to discuss concerns, you may arrange to meet me during break, lunch or
after school, if it has been arranged prior.
