relations on making it this part I have to say that it is an exciting year for both you and your kids so well done especially if this is your first time around with the senior do enjoy it so April of next year I'm so far away but it's actually just around the corner is going to be on Titanfall classic mid-to-late April we are working on getting down a date it is one of the major fundraisers for the school so we are very hopeful for a lot of pots the patient we need volunteers we need golfers I Debbie and I are actually not go for his but we are still excited to be putting on this event so if you don't go if they're still going to be opportunities for you so we are just looking for volunteers we will be getting shortly probably off to the parent policy just because let's get the attention to the parent policy for us but just please keep it in your mind save the date the date on the side here for 18 4:18 or 4:25 we will let you know once we get our seen and played but just want to invite you to continue to be a part of San Marino High School even though you are on the final stretch and to be a part of the golf tournament so leave it at that because I know there's a lot more interesting things going on on this cool but please do consider volunteering and being a part of the golf tournament awesome thank you so much Melissa be good to play out on the course instead of terrorizing office. With my horrible swings here in the office and take a swing every once in awhile here if there's enough space but thank you so much for organizing we greatly appreciate it turn off pokus / 2 listen to from the wellness center and then we'll get into all of the exciting activities we have for our seniors missile Hindi are you online I just don't come to all of that a job with Jason just to run right now is a good opportunity if you have a senior that might be struggling a little bit with all the demands in the requirements right now to have them to stop into the Wellness Center we are available for drop in did I make the right is this year you know what they talk to their college town and then just kind of how do kind of manage and juggle and prioritize so we know it's part of the confidential conversation sometimes that they're experiencing stress we are open 8 to 3:30 everyday next Thursday night September is suicide prevention month there's going to be a great speaker and he's going to give a parent talk and if you'd like more information are the San Marino High School hey Tony I think your volume went down a little bit there at the end I can hear you okay but I had my headphones in I think it was I think it was just on your end but I got it though so if people want to go back and look at the recording again just Pump Up the Volume a little bit but you got it just a heads up there thank you so much Tanya thank you for everything at the Wellness Center as for our students know what the wellness center is is a fantastic spot we've just added we just extended it actually it's looking amazing so all of the great work. can you tell Andy is doing with our interns are going to have spots and end privacy and the Really welcoming place for the students that come in there so thank you thank you thank you I'm in student Stephanie to take advantage of courage or your children to take advantage of the services that they offer a place to relax all right so now we're going to launch into a name the chat out of the way here so I can see this now we're going to launch into all the activities that are seniors are are are going to be kind of exposed to this year I wanted to start off this with one thing but we get into college and career and on all those things that we're doing with the seniors right now which is just talkin about a courses and I miss all discussed course load end this year are there were very few impediments for our kids taking the courses that they wanted to take so one of the byproducts of. Is that kids have heavy loads because when you're in the summer when you're a junior and you're coming in to that senior year your you know sometimes you think you can do more than you can and sometimes you you can do more than you can so right now we meet me we wanted to a really flexible process in the beginning of the year are counselors met with over 670 students regarding their schedules and just the first two weeks of the school year some of those were scheduled some of them were not some of them are just you know students wanted to get to know their counselor they had questions about certain courses that questions about their course load so there was a lot of connection earlier this year and we were you encourage that add drop. Because we wanted to have a dialogue between the students and the counselor and we really wanted the student to be in control of the courses that they wanted to take from Grace 9th well of course this is particularly relevant for our 12th grade students who know course that 11th and 12th grade year is extremely important for the application process and preparing for college so I just wanted to throw that out there even before these your meetings and all of these workshops that I'll be talking about in a second this really began last year so we began really thinking about what we wanted to take and how we wanted to prepare for college last year whether that includes the courses or without secret clearance on Naviance counseling department head over her and just a second but we have some flyers that have gone out and we're trying to promote upcoming dates the college application process and timeline is really the timeline is really built by the student there are some students right now who are working on early decision early action those deadlines are a little bit earlier the ucsr going to be later in November and then there's also other colleges that have even later dates than that all the colleges that are out of state so when it comes to Windows deadlines are we're trying to organize our meetings along with the students need and so I know Miss Laura's going to talk about this but definitely definitely want students to be updating Naviance when we talked with students who were in classrooms and where shops that's something that were mentioning the second week of school all of our counselors went into all the 4th. Classes with seniors and we introduced ourselves and we're definitely stressing. Naviance something. We're not that students are just seniors are using continually whether it's updating their black sheet I'm updating their colleges and and getting and getting that information and making a continual thing so in our meetings we talk thought about organization and having a student plan out this process and we're giving them tools to do that but that's a big check for us is do you know the timeline have do you have a calendar process for that timeline I'm in that renovation. So that's some of the stuff that's been happening before this even before we even started the senior meetings were about 35% of the way through our senior meetings each counselors net worth between 20 and Thirty of our seniors so we're we're kind of deep into these senior meeting I want to point out one thing over here we've been really promoting this poster the college tour dates we had our first Workshop the other day on for the personal statement 30 kids show up unfortunately we did not record it but we are going to have the materials that we're going to be sending out in our weekly communication and it's fantastic fantastic stuff the open Labs that are coming up we really encourage students attend open Labs so we have a whole bunch of date set up there and they can meet with any of our counselors in a group setting and have our counselors take a look at their college their essays are personal statements or any questions that they have definitely want to stress those open Labs on please take a look at the college tour dates it has a variety of sessions next week we're going to have mr. slim and mr. Barton come in and explain some kind of recommendations on how to get the best recommendation out recommender whether it's a t-shirt teacher here or someone external definitely want to stress that and look at those dates and we're going to be pushing that out weekly now I'm all of our seniors are having a senior meetings about 45 minutes long with each of their counselors that is the first step it's shirt it certainly is not where then it's not a 45-minute conversation and then it's over this is a conversation that that starts with 45 minutes okay let's let's check everything let's let's take a look at our schools are we in Naviance I'll be ready to go let the answer some specific questions with Taylor this meeting towards you but our councillors have fun females with our students continually they see them in open last on this really the beginning of a conversation so with that I'm going to pass it over to our department had Miss Flores to explain in a little bit more detail what happens in those senior meetings also by the way I don't feel free to put your questions in the chat and I'm going to have to be go through a little spill here we're going to go through and answer some of those questions I am thank you very much so going to your going through your students senior meeting just a little overview of what we actually do in detail is going to do a quick transfer prove you first so just going over credits going over grade the plan for senior year how important it is to stay I'm enrolled in the courses that you're taking and following through from Fall to spring semester to all the way at the end so that kind of do not final stretch a lot of conversations about senioritis and that senior just trying to keep the students motivated and from start to finish. Okay cuz there's a lot of stress that obviously comes involved and we definitely start with students that are feeling that anxiety right now so we want to do that transcript review very quickly and if any soon questions that we see any errors you know where can I buy obviously get to those piece of right away and fix anything that we need the next is really going through your pockets so your student does have access to this packet in their Google invite they have their own transcripts have a PDF of their transcript and PDF of there or the you know that senior meeting packet but definitely go over that I'm encouraging all my students in McRae ga to share that with parents so you guys can see all the information in there it's free you do their 17 pages and it was a lot of great information some of the students of course I've already done majority of it but that they should be well aware but after that we trying to go through their Naviance so we do pull up their Naviance I have literally of my students pull up you know and login open up the common application and then we start getting into where are you at in your process of college application do you have a college list how do you look for that if you haven't started where do you look for essays what are the essays just kind of looking at your transcript but I always have students go through the super match if they're still finalizing making sure that they know where to put those in and Naviance of course there's directions and how to do that in the pocket as well but we go through everything that we kind of need to show him where the college visits are happening in their Naviance as well. we access of all of the representatives that are going to be on our campus as well and that is everything is listed in there but also kind of showing them how it looks on our end you know what are we looking for are they competing of Rock sheet out they finish that started at work are they are at in this process so it kind of Gears us to see what they are needing our assistance but if students obviously are getting that outside help that we need we've course you do are just here to help in here to support students were ever that they need us their personal statements with us personal essays anything PIQ used that we want a second look I'm already seen some students and just kind of give you some feedback extra eyes are better than you don't have just a couple of stuff so just anything there sharing with us but just really encouraging our students to kind of go to those open open last time and the workshops following through with any of that those items it's a little white right now we had actually really great turnout for the but definitely I know as soon as October and November those deadlines get closer and closer those laughs definitely get a lot more past so please just encourage your students to speak to ask questions join those open lamps here to help in any way that you guys need us but also to last things before I let it be known send it back to Carlos is the year reports we do have a lot of questions about transcripts you know what when does The Counselor submit transcripts our letters make sure that the student is just submitting their application by their deadline we take care of our initial transcripts we will send those out we cannot send the transcript out to school unless you submitted your piece first. let's just getting lost in some portal out there so I have to submit after every student does their submissions we will take care of your letters of Rec will send those out mid-year reports aren't spent until the end of January so I know that there's a lot of down time in between the end of second semester which is a December but we still have time to get those transcripts finalized the end of January schools are well and are well informed that as well because we a lot of information on the back in that Naviance provides to do schools so they know when were so we will take care of that students just need to follow their deadlines submit when they are ready and don't hang on to those who wait till the last minute thank you thank you Miss Flores I can't stress enough the senior meeting is is one big event but it's not the end so we know we all need some some you know what kind of bility in Rome genders are there for that we're going to be watching them we can track what's going on and not be on something that's something that we do continually I want to add a couple things have been a couple questions in the chat somebody's things are a little bit related someone in a little bit earlier about National Merit Scholars and promoting those students that actually kind of effects are senior beating a little bit we had so many National Merit Scholars this year 15 and with those will be in our weekly communication next week those awesome seniors that are in that awesome but we really want them to become a finalist and become eligible for those scholarships which I feel like I scholarships each year for the national scholar National Merit just keep going up and so that's actually takes a lot of I'm sorry counselors we've actually expanded our senior meeting time to sort councillors have time to provide and just work with are our National Merit that's a whole application process in and of itself, like applying to a neck call Ish so we won our counselors and those deadlines are like now so there's a question about meetings we are aiming to get the majority of our meetings done by mid-october so if you haven't received a meeting invite yet you will when you get the meeting invite we include a whole bunch of information transcript a packet you know we have pie at least we invite the student we schedule the time but we also want to be mindful of our counselors Jewels cuz we also see the rest of their students and also other seniors during that time as well but also planning a ton of events for our students so it is over a pretty long time. We were originally Amy from mid-october to finish most of the senior meetings and we've expanded that a little bit recently in till later October if needed having said that though the next thing I wanted to talk about as a counselor meeting for the beginning of the year we had the counseling the schedule change request form and that's where a lot of communication happened within the first two weeks since then we've been stressing with students on the counseling meeting for we have the Q R code all over the place it's on the website we've had over 107 responses on the counseling meeting form some of those things can be can be done over email some of those things the counselor needs to meet with the student so we've been stressing that it was students if you want access to your counselor fill out the code I'm we get back to students within at Max 2 days the counselors go through there and they check off every time that they that they that they meet with a student and also their notes so definitely want to stress that so if you want to follow up after senior meeting counseling many Point Counseling meeting for counseling meeting for please please use that form and then we'll definitely address that with the student missing your meetings are also I'm seniors only and lots. why are we apart of the meeting and so on so forth in those meetings and I I I see him this year and then see the counselors but they're really doing a lot so they kept the students they take out their their computers and they're working so the counselor it's not just a hearse 45 minutes of stuff you should be doing it's 45 minutes of show me show me what you're doing okay let's do this together so they're really working with the student and making sure Naviance is it set up I'm looking at their application looking at their essays and so you'll see them and they're both looking at their screens in the meetings and that's really what we want we want the students to get the most of that time as possible and they're really working during that time to prepare for the college applications and we've been really stressing a lot this year just giving students the organizational tools and so setting deadlines for the students and really working with them on how they're organizing their upcoming their upcoming deadlines I see a mister Tara just jumped on the line Mister Car did you have any senior updates at this time no I was here to talk to her about our Aaron party quickly but I I know Jennifer spoke about it but I do have a couple of items in regards to senior portraits if if your child has not taken the senior portraits we need to take care of that as soon as possible we will have some makeup dates over and then hopefully we will not need a makeup day for November but if your child has not taken their senior portrait I have them either email me or you can email me I will provide you with information on how to schedule a Makeup Session we will schedule them here on campus for October I need needed November there's about I was actually please cuz there's only about 60 people who not taking their senior portraits I was actually buy please see. That was the number in regards to your book if your child has not picked up the yearbook from last school year please have them come and pick it up during my classroom I have lots of your books available and ready to go I don't want to I promise you they they are very heavy so if you can if you can have them pick up we would appreciate it and then lastly please we are very thankful that we found a home somewhere Shuffle to the family single Angelo family for allowing us to use our home and we are looking forward to seeing you on November 6th we do have a website available and are you we will have our auto Showcase in October our cap and gown company rep will be here on campus to us to take care of start taking care of that process but you will start hearing from us in regards to order in caps and gowns we want to make sure that we have those orders seen as soon as possible so that we have no issues to Orlando I know it's a long time 4 oz from me but I promised you a lot of kids always forget on we end up with having to scramble I swear everyone in May so we will have that information to you as soon as possible awesome thank you so much the last thing I wanted to talk about today was just our called third base and go through it a little bit more so I mentioned the Mission practice next week and we were talking about recommendations well you want to get the best recommendation and and what we really need to do is especially since we had a year-and-a-half really away from our teachers was how to inform your recommender about you and the best recommendations always come from report and having that connection with the teachers when you have a connection with someone or outside Rebel recommender Maybe whoever just having that connection so we really wanted to go through that with students next week we will definitely record that we will definitely have it on the website but we were we have our guest teacher has such a wimp in this regard and we're going to come into going to talk about you know best practices in the information that they need to write really good recommendations for our students so be good to have to get that from the source itself I'm on the 30th we have a couple things we have the SAT Act we have a speaker coming in who is extremely knowledgeable on Sat act I'm so torstensson are he didn't have been with us in the spring but he'll be coming in talking to some other students at lunch by the way I miss Flores and counselors give me my cuz it's during lunch with our seniors we might need to bring Tony's into the College and Career Center so that way we we don't lose a lot of kids to to campus lunch on those days or I don't want to the capital to force the kids to go there for the seniors but we might have to entice them by the way so we'll be talking a lot about that of course the landscaper SAT and ACT is changing drastically some of you may know you cease have don't use them anymore and therefore are emphasizing other parts of the application example AP scores as well as GPA so that looks like and of course we're be doing that's what the other grade levels later in the year as a schools begin to kind of solidified our long-term policies there is a post covid but in the future also on the 30th that's not on the flyer but we're also going to be doing a fasting and also we're going to be looking at some other aspects as well just kind of the financial aid process of going into I'm going into the end of the year that's going to be on the 30th we're doing that this can be from 6 to 7:30 it's going to be in the weekly information this week but that's going to be so mean I'm going to do with in conjunction with South Park and we have a provider coming in from Occidental who's going to explain a process in detail for us and our parents keep in mind a lot of colleges have merit-based scholarships where they were do require you to complete the fast way to be eligible so that's something worth so even if you weren't necessarily receive any financial aid it is kind of like the first step for a lot of merit-based scholarships so that is something that would that we wanted to inform our students about I know it is you know it is an extra thing to do but definitely worth considering after that we're going to be a transition of open Labs occur all through October and November are counselors going to be available to college career center Habra start mock interview preparation so far our students to are aware that they're going to be hot. They're going to have an interview for some of the college's this will be a first step to help him prepare for those interviews and we refine the process now or feedback and and how students prepare and we got down now so we're excited for a top of that for seniors coming up into late October into November I haven't gotten a lot of questions in the chat in a feel free to drop your questions in the chat and now I think I've answered most of them I'm going to scroll back real quick just to make sure I didn't miss anything there's one question about a new seniors participated in the golf tournament there were no seniors last year course I was covid still and covid-19 your snow is there a deadline for Cal contact seniors my senior has not been contacted we are contacting them basically weekly until we're going over crane those meetings base from Naviance based off of win the college deadlines are so that's why we we I really want to and we adjusted weekly so we really want to stress with our students to update their colleges continually so that way you know we don't miss any deadline but we made that we made that message really really clear when we went to classrooms and that with all right with all right with our seniors who really want them to update Naviance and so each week we may adjust students kind of up or down depending on when their deadlines are on but we are aiming to meet with all students by a mid to late October are there any more questions thank you mr. Kara for dropping the portrait link into the chat so once again what are the required Community hours to graduate so with the community service hours right now currently it is at 42 B board approved Mr kurtenbach is is going to be adjusting that a lower this year so we're looking at a course the board will have to approve but we are looking to amend that for our seniors and our Juniors so that's going to be coming soon our community service we have change the process for string art community service those hours it's now completely formed based on so you can find the form under the student section on the website they q r code is also in the in the lobby of the counseling office so students can come by just got it and drop it in all the forms are included even the pre approved community service providers all those forms are on the form are on the Google for when students fill it out so definitely want to stress completely digital process now and 1 students still in the form if we need to reach out to student to ask any questions will do that how do we check to see how many hours are student has completed so we contact our counselor amazing register are mosquitoes keeps track of all those hours to contact the counselor or mosquitoes are our registrar can let students know on those hour thank you Miss cribs early action colleges do you send transcripts and recommendations letters earlier based on their due date show up early action colleges you had those all that information will go out earlier so we definitely want to prioritize that so early action as well as early decision. Those those that information does go out and we will definitely in Naviance we're aware of when transcripts need to be sent down all the information that yes they still require many years they still will do the same as the other colleges but that will go out a little bit earlier that response was just going to say that's a good question for many of our students that are doing our ieie you do all the letters in there and stuff we are running reports as often as possible so definitely around these deadlines we are able to run reports and Naviance to show us who submitted who's done who's completed so this is when we start pulling up so once we start getting going Naviance does email the counselor as well when it's to Angel something I had some things to miss something we are constantly getting notified that just means that it triggers kind of like a you do that we have to go back in go into the students Naviance and then submit those items so yes all of that stuff is going to be submitted as soon as possible so as soon as he you don't hear she's the mister application but we will get notified we are running reports constantly of what everybody's doing also was kind of a follow-up a similar question so if my son is applying early decision does he need to remind his counselor to submit by the deadline nervous about you know just ended up being this so we'll be aware of those those deadlines and those are those are those are actions that. That we taken Naviance weather the Common App that that's linked there but we're aware of those dates if the only thing I would add to that situation is if the student hasn't had a senior meeting yet I would definitely reach out to the counselor after applying early decision and then if it and then also just to make sure that that is clearly written Naviance that. They're applying in early decision to the university or college yeah just a reminder and stuff for parents and even I let them know is my does mine's not the same as yours we are definitely following through regardless with those deadlines and stuff with it they the schools give us a different kind of line is recommended for the teachers counselors everything so we were not trying to wait we're not trying to put this off for anything adding any more stress or anxiety to your students especially but we're somebody that stuff that you know as soon as well as soon as it's ready you know so we definitely students application to get looked at as soon as possible but the student needs to follow their deadlines and then we will follow the rest so we are constantly like I said running those reports of seeing where your students at if they're submitted if everything's Linked UP we'll take care of that in a timely manner there are times to I guess I should let you guys know that the portals in the school's so when students starts you know somebody in their part of than watching their act of their progress and the applications as many times where it says transcripts not there and this was not there and that's not there but they're not talking constantly because the portals they have to download them you know what colleges have to actually go into them and download up those items so they could have been submitted on my end but it's not thinking correctly or they're not talking to each other fast enough though there's plenty of times where I just shows didn't look we so I submitted it on this day like don't worry they just have to go on there and what they're doing is mass sending emails of everything so I just said that's the hard part is I used last year I got a lot you know every year I was getting tons of emails about those items but we you know if your students really nervous about something and it still keeps emailing them saying that this is not updated send us an email we can show you the confirmation of the submission double-check our submission whatever we need to do and I wanted a quick bite at Mister car that has a hand up there as well but it's also the counseling meeting for him like if you have a question and I'll use that counseling meeting we checked out regularly and then I can be a good a good way to patient may or may not get to it like that moment but it will get to it within 24 to 48 hours so one more things thanks for letting me come back to stick again just send me the week has just been we just got the dates confirmed so February 7th through the 11th which is call leading to our Presidents Weekend are you will start hearing all of your parents to fill. Are all Google Document the same that you had were interested in your children attending Yosemite we will start providing you information on hold on I'm done with obviously with Coke home with the protocols are changing with you 7 Institute so we will we will make sure to give you the information the key here is the key here is that we are on allowed to take 75 students so it will be you will be either it will be fast coming on it will be requiring that that you register as soon as possible for your child to be able to attend thank you awesome thank you excellent and we got a couple questions. They can be removed but I'm definitely email your counselor and and and we could help with that I'm sorry about removing colleges as far as friends actually allows the Smiths just put it in the chat allow students to move colleges to no longer applying or pending applications you're constantly moving those out cuz I have students that are saying I want to take them off but I just want them they're just in case the students are able to do that at any time if they need help again this is another process that we can sit there and just got to show him how to do those make those edits I can do it on my end as well override dates if we're changing dates of applications Maybe it's no longer interested in doing like an reared deadline I can move those dates to do it it's really up to you don't freaking out to us and then we can talk excellent k I just the majority of the questions or us all the questions that we had so I need to go cover a class in a few minutes I think we got most of the questions here please feel free to if you have more questions you're seeing your or you know about the process for applications you know we're going to get this done we're excited to get this done and then I'll just get it done but have fun along the way applying for colleges is exciting like what what more exciting life decision I know can be stressful but what more exciting life decision is there then you know what you're going to do you do after you leave the place you've been in for you know you know possibly 18 yourself in this is this is this is this should be something that you had stressful the big decision but it's also fun to move to Miami and literally full circle and has been making these big light. these things are fun and it's something that scary but sometimes so scary things are are are are you can also be something that's really enjoyable and in and what we really haven't talked to you about a lot this year is making an action like something where you're really making a decision that's best for you and your family and I think that's that that's a really cool thing so yes it's stressful but it's also really exciting and really fun and it's a big step that we want our students really enjoy a lot of work but we should enjoy that decision so lots of activities for seniors please feel free to email us thank you everybody for coming in today and getting this information I'll be emailing you all a little bit later on if you want to look at it thank you awesome thank you so much mr.
