wigs let me welcome you all to the school year my name is Jennifer and I'm your GPS a president run for 20 21 20 22 if you're not familiar with I say what we do is pretty simple we are a support organization we work with the school the school administration to provide the best education that we can where are the kids that we left so the first thing we do is we support the school teacher appreciation we provide a lot of free volunteer labor helping out with registration we also provide funding for the school to I get money by the hope I meet the needs of the school I'm through and I'll choose and process it open and available and for I'm all of it I features and a activities organizations on campus athletic teams in Africa help them with us some of their needs and we find the with the wellness center obviously social emotional health is really important to all of us right now I'm coming through this pain is back on campus and really - me to the states all of our kids that Ian wants to participate in that we want to support efforts but also things that are going to make a little bit better right away of course that we support our families just like kids need their peer group to help them navigate challenges parents I always think that one of the best things I ever did with my first kindergarteners is to seek out other parents to get involved in PTA to create Forge and build the relationships that were going to give me advice and keep me sane pick up my kids on my running late from work or if you know whatever it is that you need a parent Community is truly superlative its unique if you can't find it anywhere else in the world we love each other we take Charlie I'm all committed to the same goals of excellent as the porch and I just wanted to make sure that our kids drive so y'all get participate donate imma be a part of the solutions and the the great ways that we can meet the challenges that we have to do that we got a meeting coming up come to the meeting and it's a great place to get info I'm asked questions and build relationships with other parents should be virtual for the fall semester so I mean AA meetings on the for now why I think that do most of providing us a great opportunity meeting with you work during the day and you can't come to 9 on Thursday is available to everybody so come join us for the virtual Association meetings this year we need approximately once a month and we'll talk business and you'll find out all about an old events are going on in campus Jason is is very generous with his time he always give us an update on what's going on at school and and opportunities to ask questions and that of course we also. Party time do the pgsa every year sponsors apparent party which is an opportunity not just for us to raise money for the school is one of our major fundraisers for the year but it is exactly what we did is it a party for parents come have a good time this year is Vita Las Vegas so it's going to have the casino in Detroit right now I'm coming up here and party and you know me. Other parents build relationships is a great time I'm for everybody and we also raised them badly needed funds for the school I'm old you should have received a letter in the mail I was all that pain information opportunities to make donations I'm invitations will be coming out soon but if you didn't get your pager letter you can see on the Titan bulletins will be links if I shine on Monday I think that they're afraid he's going to have a little blurb opportunities to sign up to help and then make sure that did that should come to the parent pray and then finally volunteer oh yeah show up every now and then opportunities to support school activities in the bulletin if you're free if you can just shop around ice breakers dance if you can show up to help set up at your appreciation lunch then give us an hour or two you'll probably need some new people you'll get to know this amazing place that we call San Marino High School just a little bit better so that myself and my amazing exact board this year you're going to be hearing from some of them a day I just a little bit and we're all of us are here to answer your questions to you know provide you with those little tips and hacks you know that parents need to navigate to high school or brand new place on Wilshire are you in the bulletin you always I'll always make sure that my name is email my cell phone are are in that bulletin so that you can contact me at any time I don't know the answer I will find you the person that so thank you Okemos High School reach out to us get involved I say it's your for you not just for the school and for the students pay for you as parents as well I don't know about question but I think it's more important did you hear from the other prisoners first and then if you have questions you can reach out to me after the after the job with Jason Jason do we have Lynn Linda or 3 on the line for grad night that would be likely to do so Linda and spree we are part of the 19 or the classic 2020 so this is my third and final students on whatever you want to call it a trial that's going to Central High School and what the grand ideas is it something very unique to Sam high school it's been going on since 1955 and it isn't all night event right after graduation so the kids go through graduation and see their parents take pictures whatever then they go straight into the grad night which is the gyms and the parking lots and the circle that's all transformed in this year it's transformed into marble and that is our theme and the kids had dinner and pictures and games and rides a huge amount but with this fun and with this event, a lot of volunteers and a lot of money actually we have about two and 65 kids in the class and the tickets are 225 hours for the kids to partake in this event but if we multiply that out to 25 * 265 we're only up to about $60,000 and we need about $160,000 in order to run this event what we're asking as throughout the year we will be asking any and all parents I don't care what grade your student your child is in and if you've got multiple that's even better we're asking for help with volunteering painting I'm working at the site on Wednesday and Saturday which will start in January Financial donations cash donations on anything that we can do if you'd like to be a patron like to help out but it's a really really fun I'm all the students look forward to it and we get between 85 and 90% of the students participating so it really is the best and offer our kids throughout the year you'll be seeing my email shree's Linda's Lori Modine or Julie phones email and please reach out to any or all of us and let us know that you'd like to help out participate and become a part of this very very very long-standing unique addition for kids I need thank you so much Lynn I really appreciate that and we do encourage everybody to raise your hand and volunteer you don't need a kid attending grass you don't need a senior volunteer it's a good time for you to get out there meet a bunch of new parents potentially see some of your old friends and kind of get yourself acclimated to what it means to be a Titan and how we we send our kids off at the end of it all too fantastic event a lot of fun and our kids look forward to it so much that the class of 2020 came back from college just to have their this last year thank you I'm do we have Debbie or Melissa on the line to talk a little about the Titan Golf Classic at like 12 a.m. open you families to San Marino High is a wonderful place I've had one child go all the way through and is now a sophomore in college and I have a junior and Debbie my coach are also has a junior and she has a freshman in college so we are very excited to be chairing the Tyson gold classic this little told that I'm going to give us more about a save-the-date for 18 of next year will be the Titan gold plastic it's a Monday we hold it at San Gabriel Country Club it is a major fundraiser for the high school we have a very good time raising money I do not play golf Debbie does not play golf but that is not stopping us from sharing this event to whether you play gold or you just want to participate. dinner for non-golfers where'd you like to volunteer it is just a really fun event on my way to work it last year Jennifer Truong she was one of the chairs to last year and we managed to put on a pretty good events are in covid We Are credibly hopeful that we will be able to have a slightly different event this year with less covid restrictions but no matter what the state is we are fully intending to have a wonderful event hopefully the skies will stay clear if you have any questions if you would volunteer again April 18th seems like rather long way away right Casey is on the line but let's go back really quickly to mister Coke and our Ed Foundation he is our smhs trustee liaison I hope you're still on the line Thomas feel free to unmute yeah I'm here thanks Jason and thanks Jennifer Noble you guys welcome to the new families I am the Samuel schools Foundation trustee liaison so your connection between the foundation and you the parents and families so the foundation raises money every year to help supplement basically the funding needs for your child and because of the I guess demo Graphics in San Marino being that it's a lot of wealthier families looks as we have a wealthy community overall as far as income for family we receive close to the least amount of money in the state of in district and that's just the way California has gone over the years more and more money gets pumped into the district's debt for their formulas and calculations needed more which is on a need-based formula so the end result of all this is that for us to maintain the quality education that the school has always provided our district has always provided more and more of it has to be funded locally which is PGA money they raise and contribute and direct donation to the foundation from family I smoke a little bit about this the other night and I wanted to really spend a disappointing tone in my place but at the same time not sound to alienating but it is disappointing to me that we only have 50% or a little bit over 50% of the community of the families actually that contribute we have members of the San Marino Community who don't even have kids and school several of my neighbors who donate and they don't even have kids in school and we have only fifty percent of our families or donating so my messages we need to really move this number up toward 100% we need to get away from the way it's been funded in the past which is we have several you know Wale donors that are do waiting 20 30 40 50 hundred thousand dollars and then we have lots of people are giving zero we want to move it all much more toward the middle so everyone's giving kind of the same amount which we've you know kind of telegraph everyone is 2020 $500 would be the  and yeah so if you're new to this that's that's kind of our ask is that you helped contribute to fund this Gap that has occurred because we get less and less money from the state as a proportion to our overall budget every year so I hope that makes sense I'm going to stop for a minute and let anybody ask question Thomas who got none in the chat right now some monitoring that okay well I'll just finished with last year we Foundation updated his website so the website is really good and up-to-date all the information is there as far as how to make a contribution you know you can do it check credit card you know we'll take anything you've got stock donation all kinds of things to get creative but we really really would like to emphasize that you know the quality of Education here is phenomenal you know or lead at the high school and throughout the district Jason and the other principles are phenomenal huge commitment to everyone's education and unfortunately that just doesn't come for free and I hear people all the time saying well I'm going to leave and take how to do private school first of all good luck getting in second of all you know that's 15,000 at a minimum up to 30 $35,000 so we believe for a 2020 $500 is a very good you know return on your investment and it's an investment in your child so thank you very much for your time thank you so much Thomas and I want to kind of reiterate something that he spoke of when you're discussing private schools in I do know that that's an option for a lot of people in our community and I think that there is sometimes that a belief that I can go to a private school and I can I can get just as good of an educational experience and I can have more influence cuz you know Public Schools were pretty much influenced by Ed code the nice thick book of Tiny Prints of all the things that we have to do and all the limits that we have and that can be frustrating but why I have come to really understand is that there is no place that's going to reach the caliber of Education that you get here as a matter of fact most private schools do not have a credential you are really hiring just about anybody who you deem to be worthy of being a teacher into your school on there are some who do have credentialing programs in those are obviously much better but the other part is that you are not allowed to have her or you're not you can't just attend so we do an excellent job and we take all comers to move into our city and private schools can literally tell you no thank you and you can leave now so I think that what we're doing is not only are we offering the best educational experience top to bottom and Athletics activities the Arts and academics but we're also doing it in a way that you know you are getting the best experience from the most professional teachers and staff and you know that this is your home that we are going to take care of you and and and you know how to be concerned about that in the least and I think that carries a lot of weight it's nice to know that you do have for your kids at home away from home as Mr tapau LeeAnn was saying in a meeting we were in the other day the law literally says we become your kids parents when you drop them off and that is a heavy responsibility and we take it seriously and we treasure it so please continue to give to the foundation it is what makes us so strong you did a fantastic job what is a community last year to help save so many of our staff and then passing measure he stabilizes us for the future and makes us even stronger us we really do appreciate that okay let's move forward to our Wellness Center Tonya I'm hoping you are still on the line Miss al-hendy if you could unmute hello reiterated enough all of the conversations that have been on today too so what is so important and we love having obviously the wellness center is one of those tools that we have here that you might not find anywhere else really support her students in our student needs for new families might not be familiar what's a marina we do really value the mental health of our students we want to make sure that we have plenty of support to address their needs so if you can see just we have a flyer that circulates out you might have seen it in the bulletin we have some great information on brighten Wellness Center websites we really want to connect with students that might be struggling or perhaps they're having some challenges adapting to one returning to a person to try to act activate to a new school and develop a relationship and then also manage the stress of their horses so in order to do so one of the things that you see here is they're going to have a lot of help this year through in the mall Spencer so we really reach out for different Partnerships with universities because we recognize we can't do it alone just like we need ppfa we need the foundation we need all of these folks to come together as partners and so with that we have some of post-war students will be on campus for students they provide some motivational support of necessary that assist with running groups and helping students kind of combat some of that stress and we also have some msaw interns students individually as well as well help focus on some attendance challenges that might happen and then we have our MSP trainees who provide school-based mental health services so I'd like to share with you that we are very honored to be able to provide at school basement to help with just like any other therapy that you would receive in the community the difference here is that it's cool base with convenient for everyone we recognize that students have a busy during the day school schedule but they also have you do a lot going on after school which might make it very difficult for them to connect to providers in the community that would be very helpful so we want to have that here for them and we do make sure that we provide absolute confidentiality start for a student would like to hear some more information of please you can do the QR code with your camera and you could reach out to make a referral you can send us an email here or even better yet where your stew no to just walk in and have a conversation with us so we are open every day that school is in place so they can always come in at any time at the walk-in basis and we connect with your student thank you so much thank you for needing and I I really cannot emphasize enough the amazing work that Miss lnd has done in such a very short time you know we we wanted this Wellness Center it really take off and fly for many years I was here when we began talking about it thanks to our student representative on the board back in 2015 and we did get a lot done but the piece that was missing was Miss lnd she knows exactly how to make this function in a way that doesn't just serve same High School from the jump he has been serving all four schools reaching out to making connections with local colleges and universities to really enhance what we can do we're also very excited to announce that we in about 1 week will be able to open another section of the Wellness Center where we will have three private therapy rooms and they are those are upstairs connected to our Wellness Center and above what we're calling now our students enter slash Library so we are really trying to focus on making our school a comfortable student-centered place so that when they do come in they feel like it's partially theirs if at all there's and that's a really good thing because that sort of emotional investment from kids makes being at school a much better experience for everyone please do take a screenshot of this so you'll have the QR code we're recording this it'll get posted by Monday so you'll be able to see it again as many times as possible all right Mr Casey and our lead counsel Kristine Flores who are going to work with me here to kind of go over what our new parents need to know in and actually what any parent needs to know why so I missed your kcic your unmuted do we Miss Flores here not seeing Christine an antenna Carlos isn't talking he's running down the hallway saying Christina your on your on all right let me let me talk a little bit about attendance procedures because those are getting kind of weird now right cuz we're getting these notifications of close contact for covid and that's putting a lot of kids out of school and we're also battling kind of with the state on yours how you how you do this now in attendance or so you do that with regard to covid independent study quarantine eating etcetera but what's really great for you as parents is you really only need to do one thing and that is notify Us in the event of an absence and on our website in the bottom-right gives me middle of the right hand side of the page it says report an absence if you could there it takes you right into a Google form that allows you to fill that out it allows you to attach a picture of a note and it allows you now to select that the reason for the absences quarantine because we are required by the state now for any kid who is quarantining due to covid work over concerns with Mark that would have woke you and when that does happen I want parents to know what to do next which is continue to reach out to your teacher for assignments and support while they are out due to really any on this but covid we know could be up to 10 days so the idea here is you want to keep students engaged with their classrooms immediately because if we don't they're going to come back they're going to be behind making up 10 days is not something that anybody wants to even think about though really simply if your student is not going to be coming to school just go to the website middle right hand side report an absence fill out that form and you are good you don't need to send the physical note if you've already done by the form you don't need to come in the school and you can use that same process if you need to pick your son or daughter up early so if you have a doctor's appointment and you need to pick them up at 2 you want to feel that same form out and you Mark that they will be leaving there 6. And Miss Gina Lopez are awesome attendance clerk will have a note there for the kids the kid picks the note up walks right out to your car so that you can take them to their appointment ghost and mr. Casey or Miss Flores so we've been actually doing a really good job of this but I do want to remind everyone that were not to be driving into the site some people are still coming down the West driveway that creates quite a bit of backup the drop-off points around school course of the front of school the west side of school and the east side I recommend dropping your son or daughter off maybe a block away that way you don't have to get involved in the traffic and they can get a little bit of a walk in before they get to class when picking up please make sure that you're always moving forward driving very slowly we have a lot kids leaving at the same time so please just be mindful of that and please make sure that you are listening to all of our staff members as they give you directions so I are there any questions on that anything's add Mister Casey let's talk a little bit about the Making Connections section because that's going to go into some of the counseling work that you guys are doing absolutely everybody I mr. Casey I'm your sister principal on good to see everyone one of the the big things that we we do for all new students and especially our ninth grade students is is encouraged the students to get involved in activities here at school pretty soon they're going to start to hear more about clubs that are going to be starting up are already starting up here at school and they are popular salad lots of clubs are easy way to get involved with something that they're interested in a we know that when students get involved in an extracurricular extracurriculars here at school they do better academically and I'm as well as social so we want to make sure that that's a priority for all senior All-Star all new students that are coming in a link crew link crew is a group of students where they actively will reach out to 9th grade and new students to integrate them into the school will meet periodically throughout the year and explain you know how the school work but also just provide upperclassmen who will explain what to expect in class and generally how to get around the school I'm also kind of go over how did it get them involved in clubs as well I'm going to be great if we could get that support as as well from our home so we can't stress that enough you know when when you're new to any place just getting involved and getting connected with everything that we have here I'm pretty soon you'll be getting some more information about that as well as we start the whole club club Rush season here will be starting pretty soon and I want to talk about a little bit about scheduling scheduling updates counseling meetings and we have a lot of 9th grade parents but also students who are new to the to the to the district's a little update our scheduling process we we did have about 660 schedule requests this year it sounds like a lot of requests but we're really proud of how students requested and we're really proud of how students were really taking advantage of making their choices and really working on there for your plan is actively and it ended up being a very centered approach we feel that seems maybe made a few too many changes you no going back and forth and and and had maybe a little bit too much flexibility with with how they were choosing their courses at the same time that's also a good thing because it mimics the the college process right so it's basically you know what we want to prepare them for that next step when they're going to be making those choices on their own unfortunately this year they were able to we have a schedule where they can those choices are open to our students and so they weren't denied by having too many conflicts that would limit them from taking the courses that they want to take so we definitely the students in the in the driver's seat this year I'm sure parents probably noticed that too but you know that was by Design when we do want them to be actively involved in making these decisions along with our counseling staff I'm going to talk a little bit more about counseling meetings and and how we're going to begin communicating with students for the rest of the year in just a second Miss Laura's I believe it is on the line. Feel free to unmute and jump in I'm in abroad kind of explanation about how I'm our counseling staff can be reached in this week I'm going to be sending out our in in in Jason's email on Monday there's going to be a communication about counseling meetings so from here on out there the year we're going to have a QR code it's going to be in the office as well as I communicated with students via email website excetera if they need to talk with their counselor they're going to fill out that form and will get back to them as soon as we can that form is not just scheduling classes I'm just also a social emotional aspect as well so our counselors are here to support kids with academic issues as well as other issues would you work in coordination with the wellness center but obviously our counselors will will support students more on that academic and does well later this year for our 9th grade students and also our new students will also be creating or 4-year plans I will wait until the spring in order to do or your plans because we want to review their first semester progress and then make the plan from there if we make it too early and there's too many changes that will have to make later on so we let the students get into the classes during the first semester and then we meet with them during the second semester to plan out there for your plan later on in October we're going to be doing a special parent event that talks about this so parents will be getting that information really soon are relatively soon but we'll talk about more preview what that meeting will look like with their counselor on in the spring as far as did you have anything to add to that no not really at this time I just wanted to say hello to everybody but we just really want to encourage students to come see us if they have questions or even emailing but of course please encourage your students to use that you are code of course to set meetings with us. it's definitely a way that we communicate with them was that it will put it on the calendar and then they can sit with us and have their own time as well as sit with us and talk about any concerns so we are here will hear his support students in any way that we can so I look for hopefully seeing you guys all around and just want to say hi thank you and we'll start we're going to stretch his transition away from that the schedule change request form and we're going to start the Highlight that counseling a meeting request form are you going to see that coming out and then in the next few weeks starting on Monday but that that's all the news from us right now welcome thank you guys so much and I don't want to reiterate you know we have our club Rush day basically two days next week Wednesday and Thursday we started the year with I think Miss rushing said 26 clubs I just saw an email last night eight more because our kids came back going I got things I want to do can we make this a club and Courtney rushing who's a fantastic a speed visors yes would get this thing going so kids really are getting engaged again so much fun seeing them out actually had the the coolest experience a couple of days ago I'm just walking out in the yard at lunch and just as random couple of kids walk up hello mr. kurtenbach I'm so and so and you know it I didn't know the kid which is weird for me cuz I I'm used to knowing all my kids but it was neat to see like they are hear their present they want to engage they are so happy to be on the site so is really sweet to see and we all need to give a big big round of applause to Carlos and Christine who really made a master schedule that meets the needs of kids with 600 schedule changes you would think that there's there's some problem there it's not it's it's 14 15 and 16 year olds changing their mind is what it is and they do that all the time you guys know that so we developed the master schedule thanks to Carlos and Christine that could handle all of that and the way that they were able to do that in less really in less than 2 weeks with this amazing new team that they have unbelievable Bala classes kids who are having their needs met and the process they work through is amazing and I will tell you to to a person as they walk down that counseling hallway all they say is there such a good vibe in here there miles there's happiness every once in awhile a bald principal might skip down the hallway and and sing or something it's it's a really great place to be in in our kids are really engaging with their counselors who are aware. fantastic job and we all know how challenging it is for our counseling team we've been used to having the same people on our side for many many years and the kids have been flipped a couple of times so our team is doing a great job and reaching out the kids settling them down learning about them so that they can do the best things possible to make sure they're ready for the College of their choice okay I want to talk a little bit about covid testing because hey that's a thing it's going on now right we got we got a little bit of a pandemic reverberation happening so every Wednesday any students whose parents has signed them up for testing can test people didn't read in the fine print once you sign them up one time you never have to sign them up again they can just elect to go on Wednesdays anytime that they want between 11 and 5 we obviously discourage them from leaving class so you say you can leave class but if you go ahead and between class and you Q you'll be of course Mark party cuz the teacher has two and then that gets cleared at the end of the day by our attendance clerk so even if you don't want them to test necessarily I think a really great idea that you just sign it up that way it's there if you need it you don't have to go through the process of trying to enter all the information in you can ask your questions at a time when you don't need the test and then it's available and If you never do it you know I signed up first day it wasn't too bad is one pretty quick and now anytime I want to on a Wednesday I can pop in and I can just check to make sure I'm good we're adding testing because all of our athletes half be tested within 72 hours as new guidance it was 48 hours yesterday now 72 hours we're just moving with this though it's all good because they're going to go play another team so seventy-two hours before competition every athlete has to test so we have early morning test from 7 to 8 for athletes on Mondays and Wednesdays you're probably thinking why you making them get up so early because if they can get that test in the morning we can get turnaround for Tuesday games as well so we want to give them the full 24 plus hours for the company to process those tests and give us the results so we're ready for Tuesday in the same thing for Wednesday so be looking for that if you are a parent of an athlete that you may have an early morning here there but we do have staff on campus because that is during our zero. So everything is safe and sound thank you to mr. Casey talking about getting involved yes we have a ton of Athletics for a small school we are Mighty if you didn't come out and watch one of our Folly ball games are water polo games are football games recently I encourage you to do that he's reminding all parents if you're on campus and you are in a building you need to have a mask on I'm not interested in anybody's politics I'm not interested how uncomfortable it is cuz it is uncomfortable but we have to Avalon's we can keep having events and we can keep having people come to events so I will be as well as mr. Casey walking through places from time to time and if you're not wearing one we will call you on it I don't want anyone to get us shut down and buy shut down I mean they could restrict us to no Spectators during events and that would be horrible because we've all been waiting for a kid's to get back out on the field on the court so please if your child has any interest in athletics don't look at it as wow those kids are really good I've never played softball I've never played baseball nope we have freshman teams we have gave teams you can get coached up it's a lot of fun to get to travel with the team there's a lot of camaraderie there there's a lot of support I think it's really excellent way to get connected with the school same thing goes for the Arts search program is climbing out of the ashes I say because they are a little Phoenix rising and they like to be dramatic so that's why it shows that we have an amazing our program if you haven't seen the newspaper this week they put a mural in my office and our our our teachers having them do an installation for the counseling office and we have many more art installations around the campus plan we have a brand new drama director who is is engaging like you wouldn't believe I've never seen anybody that has that much high energy that much positivity and I haven't I haven't seen at Wayne yet and I'm I'm 12 Days Inn so there are days where I'm a little bit you know down but Mr Hernandez is up the whole time so I would encourage your kids to get involved in drama now even if they're not in a drama class we do have our spring Musical and that is a take all comers musical so anyone can try out for that and they will get parts for everybody I think a couple years ago we did Peter Pan and basically if you wanted to be in it you can be a lost boy you can be any number of characters and we had a massive full stage a huge ensemble cast it was brilliant so I really encourage that and I think it would play something again there's a lot of connections built there I was a drama geek when I was in high school it is the most fun that you can have I'm just pretending like when you were a little kid and it does build a lot of great connections kids and working in the Arts really help that's why they call it the humanities really helps to build your ability as a person to make connections with other people and understand where people are coming from in a way that probably nothing else does so please encourage your kids to get involved in that same with dance not too many people had this kind of locked in but dance is PE for freshman so dance is something that we very much encourage our kids to get involved in because it is something that is lifelong and it is something that helps them with their ability to express themselves creatively all right communication we have a newsletter that is an opt-in and I encourage everybody to opt into that newsletter if you again go to the website on the middle right we've got subscribe to the newsletter that will get you a lot of information my email also comes out on Monday the same time sometimes a lot of it's the same the newsletter tends to have a lot more information about the broader San Marino High School community I'm you might see information there from the Titan atletic boosters the pgsa the Arts boosters so it's really important that you get both of those modes of communication I also encourage all of our parents to sign up for our calendars if you go to the calendar button on our website you can subscribe to all of our calendar so we have separate ones for our athletic teams so you can keep track of when your kid plays their games parts so you can see when the performances are that you will want to attend activities so you see when some of our clubs are doing big events or having Club Rush day Etc do we have what we call our Master calendar and our men your calendar really has all of kind of those extra pieces of information PTSA meetings when our minimum day or late starts are when finals week are things like that and then finally mr. Casey and the counselors run the app my calendar and that is when is the PSAT when do we sign up when do we have senior meetings when do we hit it really guide the kids through the academic process when are applications due for certain colleges and universities all the different things that we when you get out to our students I'm so those three points of communication if you can do those three you will always know what's happening at San Marino High School we pride ourselves on over communicating which we don't believe actually is this that you can't communicate too much and finally before we open it up to any other questions which we see some popping up down there lunch thank you so much for pivoting after day one we I'd probably close to two hundred Parents try to walk in and drop off lunches day one and and we have to understand something you know who you are and your kid knows who you are but we don't know who you are so we can we can't check out all those people coming in so and there's also that's one safety issue of course covid is another safety issue so please know that your kids are being fed a free food right we free food now for everybody a snack and lunch so students don't have to pay the lines are a little long but we're working on that because we're at we're hiring more people you can have them bring their own lunch although unless that's a really important thing with you with the ant situation I don't you guys probably have it at your house we get it in the lockers a lot so we discourage that if you do bring it when Cruise the kids to just keep it on their person throughout the day otherwise it tends to sit in the locker somebody Ferg sit and after two days it's a horrible mess as you can imagine please do not bring food and please do not send an Uber Eats or doordash or GrubHub yes we've had that Ashley last week we had some Chick-fil-A delivered to multiple students I'm so please first discourage that what I tell students is it is not something that you can do at the high school however if you do I thank you because that food will be confiscated and I will eat well and we will share with the counseling staff cuz they they obviously need more food they're working a lot harder than I am all right that is it for the main attractions for how we doing on time look cheap perfect we're always so perfect we love ourselves okay let's take a look at our does the covid testing include band students is it needed before they attend football games that is a great question we have not gotten any guidance to necessitate bands or any other additional people getting tested on a regular basis this is purely Athletics the two updates did not mention bands they did not mention color guards it does include cheer and it does include all the other athletes so actually in our school that's probably about 50 to 70% of kids of course they're not all play same time but that everyone will kind of fall into that at some point a good question is the vaccine mandated we cannot mandate the vaccine only the state can mandate the vaccine I know some school districts are trying to go out on a limb and do that it's not working because it's not something that that we can mandate we don't have that Authority and right now we are not asking to know unless there is a reason to know so I'll give you an example of that I'm not going have everybody report their vaccinations status and I'm going to ask however if I have a close contact and need to do contact tracing in order for a group to participate in an event I will and do have the authority to walk up to each kid and ask if they have been vaccinated because if they have and they have no symptoms the rules say they can go ahead and participate in the event so we had a situation at the football game last week where one of their are football players did test positive so we went through every football player to find out if they were were not vaccinated and whether they did or did not have symptoms and the rules of LA County say if if the answers are correct you can go ahead and play against that other team of course we kept the other team inform the other time we want to be good neighbors and good partners with everybody and that went off without a hitch but we are not asking and mandating vaccinations we Trace systematically not case-by-case right now the only way we are tracing is case-by-case and that's because we don't have enough information to really do it systematically I'm in in time that maybe something that we do in our our student information system PowerSchool is developing tools that if we collect the right information we could do some sort of a holistic systemic impact racing with our contact tracing I must say we have done we have had I believe for positive incidents in the past 12 days those for positives have not yet yielded an additional positive to a close contact that has been reported so I wouldn't I wouldn't put that out there clearly so for example I had to do to yesterday and the close it was about 100 total students and today as I check attendance I would have expected a much lower attendance today it was not it's been holding pretty consistent around a hundred to a hundred and fifty soon and that's based on quarantining or you know what I had a little runny nose today imma stay home and check that and I don't want to let you know get anybody sick so I'm not seeing sort of a this kid got it and now this kid in this getting this kid in this guy that doesn't seem to be happening yet based on the reports I got can you explain with a bit of detail how I do the contact tracing certainly certainly so and I know this is something that that is very important because we want to make sure that we are protecting the students privacy first but let's all be really Frank with each other we are a very small school district we are a very small high school and pretty much within about 24 hours of kids noticing you know what mr. crubach isn't here and he's always here and then we got a notice that said that the people around this Turk Bach were possibly expose so it's pretty easy to figure out we do not ever give that information about what we do is often times and the counseling team helped out with this is one case they have the student named we go in each classroom and we have a conversation with the teacher and private sometimes I do this via email for to be expedient and I say this students and I'll usually use a number or I'll use initials so they show me email just in case somebody accidentally forwards it it's not outing somebody has tested positive who in your classroom is within the student Daisy and has been around them for 15 minutes or more and usually actually every time we've done this we've gotten immediate responses it's usually five at most it's been six students because of the way that they classrooms are set up if they are working in groups teachers are keeping them in the same pod the whole time so that way they're not intermixing and then I get that list of students back I run that list through PowerSchool so I can pull up all the pain send information so that I can communicate once we have gone through that process I write the letter along with Leda escamilla our health Clerk and dr. Steven Choi are head covid so we write the letter we make sure we get all the Tails corrects were not I'm giving too many details we provide next steps and then we send that out and we also do a general notification and then dr. Choi updates the dashboard on the website that's been the base process we are in the process of hiring a covid I guess helpers so they'll be part-time employees who will come in and help each site with the process of contact tracing because it is a pretty time-intensive task yesterday I did two of them it took 3 hours total to do all that work and it's important work and that's why we do it but it is something that is taking a direct time can we mandate the vaccine for the assembly trip we will not be doing that but we have been looking at overnight camps and I've been helping Huntington look at there's the camps have different requirements than schools and I would say actually their requirements are far more stringent they are required to show proof of vaccination Atmos camps I'm not sure if you have somebody's like that yet because we are just in the process of Contracting with them and they also are requiring a negative test 48 hours before you go to the camp all of their counselors are vaccinated and that is their choice they are private companies so they mandate their their people be vaccinated and they are tested I believe they said they're processed and I'm not sure about Yosemite I'm just talking about some other camps every 3 days so they're kind of swab. 3 days to stay on top of it so in my mind you go to an overnight camp you're almost safer because there's really going to be a hard hard time for somebody to come in who is infected I'm the biggest question about overnight Sam says what about the arrangements because you obviously aren't going to sleep with a mask on so the guidance from the county is its they arranged the beds foot to foot so that there's maximum distance between students and they like to crickets in no more than four people in a cabin in a room and pretends whatever it is and often times it's a lot less we're sending our choir to an end overnight and they will be almost 1 to a cabin they will be the only group up there can you explain with a bit of detail can we do the contact tracing Yosemite trip alright I think we've covered everything mr. Casey or counselors I think I missed anything that you wanted to add yeah it actually just one quick thing we put in some resources in the chat a little bit earlier about our website and and and how to access the information for like the counseling meeting for him also I miss mahr's out to put in our our flyer that were going to be sending out this Monday as well it just explains the the resources that that we're going to that we provide on both with our counseling department or our our comprehensive counselors and also the Wellness Center so those are in the chat and there was a comment to put that on the website absolutely definitely on that excellent yeah we will be sending out more information on Yosemite as well because we as we said we gauged interest with our seniors to see if they were interested in going and we had nearly a hundred students say they are so we're going to go ahead and move forward with that trip and see what that entails and will get a lot of information out to the community about that to be able to make an informed decision all right at this time we are right on 10 wow we are good I want to thank everybody who came on today hey Jennifer shuang Thomas Coke all of the chairs for the parent party for grad night and for the Titan Golf Classic especially mr.
