Welcome!
Hello and welcome!
I’m Ms. Shen, a Chinese American dancer and educator born and raised in Los Angeles. Currently, I’m in my fourth year as the Dance Director at San Marino High School. With over 23 years of experience in classical ballet, contemporary, modern, and jazz dance, I’ve had the privilege of training in various dance styles from a young age. My journey began at Li’s Ballet Studio, where I also performed at the World Expo in Shanghai in 2010 and 2011.After high school, I earned my BFA in Dance Performance from the University of California, Irvine, as a William Gillespie Scholar. During my time there, I had the honor of learning from renowned professors like Donald McKayle, Jodie Gates, Tong Wang, Sharon Wray, and Diane Diefenderfer, among others. Additionally, I’ve trained with prestigious companies such as Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, BodyTraffic, Steps on Broadway, and the San Francisco Conservatory of Dance. In addition to my performance career, I’ve spent over 13 years teaching at dance studios, including the well-known Steps on Broadway in New York City. My professional performance experience includes working with companies such as Re:borN Dance Interactive, Mike Esperanza, Craft Dance Series, Peridance Contemporary Dance Company, and the Chase Brock Experience. As a certified Pilates instructor (Mat and Apparatus) and Barre fitness teacher, I’ve dedicated over 10 years to helping students improve their strength, flexibility, and overall fitness. I hold a California Single Subject Teaching Credential in Physical Education and a Master of Arts in Teaching with an emphasis in Educational Technology, both from the University of La Verne.I am passionate about empowering students to not only excel in dance but also to cultivate a lifelong appreciation for the performing arts. Through dance, I aim to instill valuable life lessons that students can carry with them beyond the studio. When I’m not teaching or dancing, I love watching documentaries, discovering new cafes, and spending time with my cat, Zula.
