Wind Ensemble Auditions

Wind, brass, and percussion students are selected according to their performance level as well as their participation in Concert and Marching Band.  One year of Concert Band is required for new and incoming students. Auditions are held each year at the end of May for the upcoming year.
 
Winds:
1) Full Range Chromatic Scale: Quarter Note = 120 BPM, Slur while ascending, Tongue while descending
 
2) 2 Octave Major Scales(You Pick/I Pick): Quarter Note = 120 BPM, Slur while ascending, Tongue while descending, Up to 4 Accidentals: Ab, Eb, Bb, F, C, G, D, A, E (Do not transpose, play according to your instrument)
 
3) Standardized Solo Excerpt: All students on similar instruments will be given a short excerpt to prepare.
 
4) Individualized Solo Excerpt: Prepare a solo or excerpt that is no longer than 2 (two) minutes.
 
5) Sight Reading: Perform an excerpt without preparation, with regard for rhythmic, pitch, articulation, and phrasing accuracy.
 
Percussion:
1) Roll Control on: Snare Drum, Bass Drum, Suspended Cymbal, Timpani, Tambourine, Triangle
 
2) One Octave Major Scale (You Pick/I Pick): Quarter note = 120 BPM, ALL 12 scales are included
 
3) Standardized Solo Excerpt: All percussion students will be given a short excerpt to prepare.
 
4) Individualized Solo Excerpt: Prepare a solo or excerpt no longer than 2 (two) minutes on Snare Drum, Mallets, or Timpani
