Advanced Drama (Period 1)

Course Description

Advanced Drama is the final level offered in the Drama Program and it is open to any 11th and 12th graders who have met the prerequisite requirements and have completed the audition process.

This class is designed to prepare students for college, as an artist but also as a thinker and learner. Although it builds upon the skills acquired in beginning and intermediate drama, it introduces complex ideas, emotions, and materials in order to utilize and hone their acting and analytical techniques. It requires the students to work as a team, to rise above differences to collaborate and create as well as perform.

These students are held to a higher level of accountability because they are leaders on the campus and I expect them to behave as such. They perform in assemblies, at other school sites, and they are given the opportunity to direct their peers. They also represent our school on numerous field trips, at drama festivals, and on stage, so it is imperative that students hold themselves to the highest of expectations.

It is imperative that DRAMA is a safe environment where everyone has a right to be “themselves” – to have their opinions, feelings, and to try creating new things. In order to ensure this the following rules will apply. Inability to follow the rules could result in removal of the class.
