Assignment

This week we will be understanding and researching the elements of an argumentative paper.  During your junior year, in English 5/6, you will be writing a major argumentative research paper.  To prepare you for that, I have sent you handouts to read over, decide on a debatable topic, document ideas for and against your viewpoint, then on our next meeting you will start the planning process for an argumentative paper.  Download my attachment, then read over "Terminology that Accompanies Persuasive writing", then read "Using Models to teach Argumentative writing".  Start looking through those websites and decide what debatable topic you would like to research.  Read some articles and start taking notes after you decide on a debatable topic.  A debatable topic is a topic that you can find strong reasons to argue both FOR and AGAINST something.  Start filling out the handout called "T-Graph" and write arguments FOR AND AGAINST your chosen issue.  Then find the "Why Chart" handout and fill out research that supports your position and the opposing viewpoints.  For ATTENDANCE today, please respond to the discussion on turnitin.com.  I'm going to ask you for your debatable argument.
