Intermediate Drama
Course Description:
Intermediate Drama is the second in a series of three levels offered in the Drama/Theatre Program. Intermediate Drama is a one year course open to students who have completed Beginning Drama. The class is designed to continue the students engagement in the dramatic process by developing the students imagination, problem-solving skills, and communicative potential.
Course Content:
The student will further develop skills in creative expressing through extensive stylized pantomime assignments, story improvisation and playwriting. The students will collaborate with classmates from the advanced class in producing a program of scenes of short plays for the public.
At this level, students learn the principles of theatre direction and script interpretation. Theatre history and heritage is introduced at the intermediate level. Students read and perform scenes form a variety of dramatic literature reflecting diverse periods and styles. Theatrical traditions from other cultures are examined as well.
Students will continue developing aesthetic valuing though oral and written critical evaluations of plays read and seen. Field trips to college and professional theatres will broaden the student’s experience.

Textbook:
None. All material for this class is taken from existing dramatic literature and educational theatre resources.
Special Features:
All students are required to perform in or direct a scene for public performance. Students are required to see and write evaluations of the five yearly Department productions.
Prerequisites:
This class is a prerequisite for continuation to the advanced level. A grade of B or better is needed to continue.
