WHAT The SMHS Instrumental Music Boosters is part of the Friends of SMHS VAPA (Visual Arts & Performing Arts), a private, non-profit 501(c)3 non-profit organization (Tax ID #: 27-4794976), which was formed in 2011 to provide financial and administrative support for the SMHS Arts programs.  Specifically, the Instrumental Music Department Boosters, ensures that all of its programs—Marching Band, Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, Winter Drumline, and Winter Color Guard—have the financial and operational resources to maintain its highly-regarded and award-winning ensembles throughout the school year and over the summer.

WHO Close to 10% of our total school population are in one, or in most cases, in multiple ensemble groups.  The Instrumental Music Boosters is a parent, volunteer organization led by its officers of President, Vice Presidents, Treasurer and Recording Secretary along with a Committee of Ensemble Chairs who work closely with the Music Director in the planning, management, and financial requirements each school year.  Volunteers are self-nominated and there are no term-limits.  The Boosters officers are under the guidance and jurisdiction of the Friends of VAPA Board.

WHY Due to the number of total students, depth and quality of our Music programs, and logistical demands, the Music Boosters plays a critical role in ensuring our students experience a robust, enriching music education which includes not only improving their musicality and technical playing, but also important life skills such as responsibility, dedication, hard-work, time managements, leadership, poise, and teamwork.  Without the 100% financial support and participation by all Music parents, the Boosters would not be able to provide the needed funds for our outstanding Music program.

HOW Each year the Instrumental Music Department relies on 90-95% of its income from the generous financial support given by parents and outside donors.  The budget is managed by the Music Boosters in coordination with the Music Director.

All gifts are appreciated and vital! Parents and families are also welcomed to participate by helping at the competitions, performances, concerts, and serving on the Boosters Board & Committees.

On behalf of our SMHS students, we thank you for your support!
