Principal’s Message
When you look around San Marino High School, you find quality everywhere.  We have quality in our new facilities and the highest quality academic and co-curricular programs.  But these are not the things that make a quality school.  Above all, a school is defined by the quality of the people in it.

Each of you has a role at San Marino High School.  You won’t all be number one in you class.  You won’t all be captains of athletic teams.  All of you won’t have lead roles in plays, be editors of the yearbook or part of ASB.  But you are all part of the team that makes SMHS one of the finest schools in California.

On any team, its members have individual strengths and areas of needed growth.  The most successful teams blend the abilities of the individuals so that together each is better than s/he would be individually.  This is the challenge I offer you this year. Work with the people around you to help each other become more than you could otherwise be.  Each of you has the ability to make SMHS better simply by being a quality person.  Regardless of your IQ, athletic ability, or musical talent, you have the strength of character.

Yes, San Marino High School can help prepare you to become businesspeople, doctors, lawyers, computer engineers, salespeople and a whole lot more.  But more than the world needs higher quality doctors, lawyers, or businesspeople, the world needs higher quality people.  Developing a character that makes those around you better is perhaps the most important part of your high school learning.  Although you can’t all be number one in the class or the MVP on an athletic team, you can develop a strength of character that will be the most valuable asset you in preparing you to be successful in the future.  You won’t all win awards or gain recognition that sets you apart from your peers, but if SMHS is to be a truly quality school, you will have an equal role in being the kind of people that will make at least your little corner of the world a better place.  The greatest success is that which you, yourself, recognize, and it only comes from doing what you know to be the right thing.

I look forward to working with you to make SMHS a truly quality school
